Four magical events celebrate Kennedy Center Autism week
From Saturday, Sept. 19 through Saturday, Sept. 26, come bring your family and friends to a magical week of fun. Four events have been planned by The Kennedy Center’s Autism Project, where children, families and adults have the opportunity to participate in Kennedy Center Autism Week. You also will be supporting affordable accessible programming for local children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Saturday, Sept. 19 - The festivities kick off with the Autism SpectRUN at Great Hollow Lake at Wolfe Park in Monroe. Race registration opens promptly at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:45. This 5K Color Fun Run/Walk/Stroll is for all ages. Dress in as many colors as you want; be creative from head to toe. Prizes will be awarded for most colors worn and most unique.
There is an early bird special until Aug. 31 of $30/adult and $15/child. After that, prices increase to $35/adult and $20/child. There is also a special student price of $20 until Aug. 31, which increases to $25.
Sunday, Sept. 20 –The KCAP CUP is a soccer fundraiser for all ages and abilities that will be held at Goooal Sports, 1791 Stratford Ave., Stratford from 3 to 6 p.m. This non-competitive indoor tournament features teams of five or more players. Each team sets their own fundraising goal with a suggested minimum goal of $500.
Thursday, Sept. 24 - The Kennedy Center hosts an Open House at its Autism Project, located at 4021 Main St., Stratford from 4:30-6 p.m. Parents, guardians and community members are welcome. Guests will meet group leaders from the Children's Services Autism Project and have the opportunity to participate in a movement group, cooking group, and/or a social activity group.
Saturday, Sept. 26 - This weeklong celebration culminates with Magic Moments, an autism fundraiser that will be held at the Westport Inn, 1595 Post Road East, Westport. This evening event begins at 7 p.m. with a cocktail party, food, silent auction and music by The What Up Funk Band featuring Jerry Vigorito from Band Together. Individual tickets are $125 per person.
