Darryl Wilkes is Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year representative

Darryl Wilkes has been named 2015 Youth of the Year representative at the Milford Boys & Girls Club.
The Boys & Girls Club of America Youth of the Year program honors the nation's most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures and encourages all kids to lead, succeed and inspire.
As the new Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Club of Milford, 19-year old Wilkes is a true example of an extraordinary young man devoted to leadership, service, academic excellence and a healthy lifestyle, club officials said.
Wilkes was recently honored and recognized at a state-wide Youth of the Year dinner held at the State Capitol, with state Rep. Kim Rose in attendance along with many other state representatives and key Boys & Girls Club supporters.
“Darryl is a leading example of how Boys & Girls Clubs change lives and provide a positive place for youth,” said Jill DeWerdt, program director from the Milford Boys & Girls Club. “We are so proud of Darryl and the man he has become over the years.”
Wilkes will graduate as part of the 2015 graduating class of Jonathan Law High School in Milford. Recently Darryl was hired as a staff member at the club after being an active member of the Boys and Girls Club of Milford for the past five years.
He currently assists youth development counselors in daily activities, facilitates basketball games and even chaperones middle school dances. Darryl will also be presenting at the Boys & Girl Club of Milford, CT Getaways Galore event on May 15 at Costa Azzurra Restaurant.
Darryl remains committed to the overall mission of the club by encouraging and enabling all members to flourish, club leaders said. Following graduation, he hopes to attend college, and continue working as a youth development counselor at the Boys & Girls Club of Milford.
“Over the past five years, the Boys & Girls Club of Milford has provided me with a safe haven to develop into the productive and responsible adult that I am,” Darryl said. “I strongly believe that the lessons and experiences I have had at the club will positively impact my life personally and professionally. I look forward to impacting younger member's lives and guiding them down a successful path the way my counselors did for me. ”
