Candlelight vigil for UN Climate Change talks
An interfaith music and prayer service “The Light for Paris Vigil” will be held in support of the UN Conference on Climate Change in Paris, France.
The candlelight vigil will take place Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 5:30 p.m., at St. Paul’s Church, 661 Old Post Road in Fairfield, and is sponsored by the Fairfield County Interfaith Alliance on Climate Change.
Featured will be Connecticut’s State Troubadour and Fairfield resident Kristen Graves, who will lead the group in the song The Tide is Rising, a ballad that is quickly becoming the anthem of the Climate Justice movement. Reverend Stephanie Johnson of St. Paul’s will preside, as will Peggy Hodgkins, the rector of Trinity Church in Southport. Light refreshments will be served.
The conveners note “In the face of recent tragedies, we must come together to affirm the fundamental goodness of life and the sanctity of our existence. Our common humanity and our ethnic, religious and cultural diversity are great gifts. Our religions all teach us to be sources of light and hope in the face of the darkness of despair. In times like these, we are called to pray, remember and to act. We aim to come together as one human family, standing up for each other and for our common home.” —Ourvoices.net
