Big holiday food drive this weekend in Milford: Watch video

The annual Milford Scouts’ Thanks-4-Giving food drive takes place this weekend to gather food for Thanksgiving to distribute to people in need.

The collection will start Friday, Nov. 11, at noon and run until noon Sunday, Nov. 13.

Troop 1 of Milford will host the collection, with help from more than a dozen other Boy Scout, Cub Scout and Girl Scout units.

The Scouts will camp out at Milford’s Wasson Field over two days, collecting and sorting food donations from residents and staffing tables at local supermarkets. They will collect frozen turkeys, non-perishable food items and money, with all proceeds going to the cause.

Residents are asked to bring their donations to Wasson Field at the Parsons Government Center, or make a donation at one of the participating supermarkets.

Organizers hope to provide more than 300 Milford families with Thanksgiving meals and donate food to the Milford Food Bank, John Rigley Food Pantry and Cornerstone Christian Center Food Pantry, among other food distribution charities.

Over the last 11 years, Milford Scouts have collected more than 70,000 pounds of food and 1,600 turkeys, and received more than $10,000 for the cause through the Thanks-4-Giving event.
