Author of ‘Photographing National Parks’ will speak at Milford Photo

Chris Nicholson, a writer and photographer and author of "Photographing National Parks," will speak Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Milford Photo, 22 River Street.

Admission is $10.

Nicholson, a former Milford resident, has worked independently as a photographer, instructor and writer since 2004 after working 10 years as a magazine editor. His work, primarily focused on travel and sports, has appeared in several books and more than 30 magazines. He is a book editor for National Parks Traveler, a workshop leader with the National Parks Night Program, and a member of the Sierra Club and National Parks Conservation Association.

His appearance in Milford will consist of a lecture and book signing.

Titled "Photographing National Parks," the presentation will cover a little of the history of art in the park system, what the parks offer to photographers of all levels, the tools and techniques Nicholson uses and recommends to maximize a park shoot, and nearly 200 photos from locations as varied as Acadia, Olympic, Everglades, Death Valley and Yellowstone.

The lecture coincides with the 2016 centennial celebration of the National Park System.

“After his visual presentation Chris will be on hand to answer questions and sign copies of his book, which will be available to purchase from the store,” according to a Milford Photo announcement about the event. “Consider this a great chance to learn some insider secrets to making great images of some of this country's most photogenic lands.”

Light refreshments will be served.
