14th annual Pipe Screams Halloween musical extravaganza Oct. 18
The 14th annual Pipe Screams family-friendly Halloween musical extravaganza features a concert of Halloween-themed and Broadway musical pieces including a mighty pipe organ, five choral groups with more than 200 singers, incredible musicians, a 1920s silent film, costume contest with prizes, and a reception. Featuring the choruses of Sacred Heart University and the University of Bridgeport, as well as the Norma Pfriem Children’s Choir on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m., at the United Congregational Church, 877 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. Musicians include Dr. Joe Utterback (Stratford), Dr. John Michniewicz (Bridgeport), David Harris (Fairfield), Frank Martignetti (Bridgeport), Dr. Aymeric Dupré la Tour (Fairfield), Darwin Shen (Fairfield), Krista Adams-Santilli (Trumbull), Jay Lindsay (New Haven).
The more than 200 singers in the choruses of Sacred Heart University and the University of Bridgeport, as well as the Norma Pfriem Children’s Choir, come from a long list of communities, including Milford, Orange, Stratford, Trumbull, Monroe, Easton, Shelton, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Redding, Norwalk, Westport, Darien, Weston, and Redding.
Proceeds benefit the Louise M. Miller—Paul E. Knox Scholarship given annually by the Greater Bridgeport Chapter, American Guild of Organists. This scholarship, in memory of two distinguished area church musicians, is awarded annually to a promising college-age organist. Past winners have gone on to distinguished careers with international recognition.
Concert co-producer, Frank Martignetti, choral director at the University of Bridgeport, said, “Our singers and audiences have come to expect an amazing variety of wonderful entertainment in a 90-minute program. This year is no exception, as we showcase several distinguished members of our area’s church music community. You’ve heard them on Sunday morning…now see them do Halloweeen!”
