The winners of the 2014-2015 DAR American History and the Christopher Columbus essay contests will be honored at the Freelove Baldwin Stow DAR Chapter House at 55 Prospect Street in Milford at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12. The American History contest is open to fifth through eighth grades at all Milford schools. This year\u2019s topic was \u201cA Child's Journey Through Ellis Island.\u201d The following students were named winners in the contest. Grade 5 1st Place, Makalei Bliss, Calf Pen Meadow 2nd Place, Emelia Russell, Calf Pen Meadow 3rd Place, Madison Lusignan, St. Gabriel Honorable Mention, Brandon Greene, St. Gabriel Grade 6 1st Place, Celia Usher, St. Gabriel 2nd Place, Jacob Fleischer, St. Gabriel 3rd Place, Madilyn Lula, St. Gabriel Hon Mention, Sebastian Holt, St. Mary 7th Grade 1st Place, Griffin Congdon, St. Gabriel 2nd Place, Cate DeProfio, St. Mary 3rd Place, Victoria Sogueco, St. Mary Honorable Mention, Erin Albright, St. Mary 8th Grade 1st Place, Clare Bassano, St. Mary 2nd Place, Claire Lagarde, St. Mary 3rd Place, Julianna Dente, St. Mary Honorable Mention, Spencer Mehan, St. Gabriel The local\u00a0 Freelove Baldwin Stow DAR Chapter also sponsors the Christopher Columbus essay contest, which is for ninth through twelfth grade students. The 2014-15 Christopher Columbus essay topic was \u201cJoining Christopher Columbus on His Voyage to the New World.\u201d Joseph A. Foran students Robert McGinnis and Lyric McVoy both received honorable mention for their participation.
