ANSONIA \u2014 Police said several people were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after the driver of an Audi struck a car carrying an infant passenger and a pedestrian before coming to a stop in a parking lot. Police said the operator of the Audi and a passenger both fled the scene and have not been located. The car was not stolen and authorities expect to make an arrest. The incident began minutes before 2 p.m. when an Ansonia police officer attempted to stop the silver Audi on North Main Street near Liberty Street, Lt. Patrick Lynch said through a press release. The car did not stop and fled \u201cat a high rate of speed\u201d northbound. Lynch said the officer did not attempt to pursue the fleeing car. At the intersection of North Main Street and Third Street, the Audi struck a Hyundai as the other car was turning left. Police said the Audi was traveling the wrong way over the middle line at the time of the accident. \u201cThe Audi then travelled onto the sidewalk striking a fire hydrant, a pedestrian and a tree before coming to a stop at the entrance to the Daily Mart parking lot,\u201d the release said. Police said the female pedestrian received injuries to her head, arm and leg and was taken to the hospital where she was in stable condition. The driver of the Hyundai and the infant passenger were both hospitalized as well, and police said two passengers in the Hyundai were also treated at the scene. The driver of the Audi was described as a male with no shirt wearing dark-colored shorts and a baseball cap. The passenger, also a male, was wearing a black shirt and pants. Both were last seen running toward Fourth Street. \u201cDetectives are in the process of identifying the driver and an arrest is anticipated in this incident,\u201d Lynch said.
