Residents are reminded they can help firefighters by digging out fire hydrants after major snowstorms. When snow accumulates, some hydrants can be difficult to access \u2014 and that could lead to disaster in an emergency. If a fire hydrant is near your home or business, residents \u2014 if possible \u2014 are urged to help keep it clear of snow for prompt access by firefighters. What is recommended is clearing a path from the street to the hydrant, then three feet around the hydrant on the remaining three sides. Snow should not be shoveled into the street.
