The Friends of the Milford Library is participating in the 16th annual National Friends of the Library Week. The week runs from Oct. 17 to 23, and the Friends of Milford Library will be once again offering a “Party in the Bag” in place of its usual fundraiser, “Party in the Stacks,” which will not be held again this year due to the pandemic. The bag’s contents will include literary-themed cocktail recipe bookmarks, sweet treats, a trivia game, a specially designed 3D, three dimensional printed bookmark, and more information about the Friends. The bags were inspired by the library’s popular “take-and-make kits” happening for children and families. The “Party in a Bag” is free and available to library patrons starting on Oct. 19 on the upper floor of the library during regular hours. Bags will be on a first-come, and a first-serve basis. During National Friends of the Library week, people can visit the Friends’ Welcome Table, which is located on the lower level of the Milford Public Library, to find out how to become a member, or simply to show their support. “While FOML appreciates its members and their commitment all year,” Pam Pilla, Friends of the Milford Library president, said, “we look forward to joining with organizations nationwide to celebrate the good work of our local libraries, their dedicated staff members, and our volunteers.” Fundraising efforts will be underway via the the Friends of the Milford Library group’s ongoing gently used book sale. Promotional merchandise will also available for purchase, including masks, coffee mugs and canvas bags. The Friends of the Milford Public Library is a non-profit, 501(c)3 volunteer organization. All proceeds that are raised by the Friends are used to fund children and adult programs, museum passes and expenses that are not covered by the Milford city budget.
