Foran graduation is tonight at 5:15

Foran High School will hold its graduation exercises tonight (Friday) starting at 5:15 p.m. at the school. Hamsa Ganapathi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Narasimhan Ganapathi, ranks number one in her class of 248 students and is this year's valedictorian. She has consistently achieved the highest honors while enrolled in rigorous Honors level and Advanced Placement classes. Currently, Hamsa’s schedule includes AP Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, AP European History, AP Calculus, and AP Biology. Hamsa received a perfect score in the Math section of the SAT and the Chemistry SAT Subject Test, an impressive accomplishment, according to Foran Guidance Director Susan Unger. “Scoring the perfect score on the math test is truly unique, only 10,052 out of 1,530,128 score it,” Unger said. “As for the Chemistry subject test, only 5% who take the test score an 800 on the exam. Pretty impressive odds.” Hamsa is very involved in the Foran High School community and is a natural leader. This school year, she is serving as the Vice President of her class, Vice President of the National Spanish Honor Society and Vice President of Student Government. Hamsa was chosen to serve as the student liaison to the Milford Board of Education. In the community, Hamsa volunteers at the local library. She spends many hours tutoring young students who are struggling academically. Hamsa also helps every Sunday at the Indian Community Center. Hamsa plans to major in Chemistry and has not decided on her choice of college. “I am planning on a career in oncology, namely cancer research and treatment,” Hamsa said. “I want to research the causes of cancer and work toward new methods of treating it.” Alexandra Corsi, daughter of Christine and Al Corsi, earned her place as Salutatorian by completing a rigorous course of studies, including 8 AP courses and 15 honors level classes. Alexandra has been awarded numerous accolades for her achievement in the classroom, including AP Scholar with Honor; student of the year for Chemistry, Physical Science, and AP Government; and is the current President of the National Honor Society. Alexandra is a scholar-athlete. She has been swimming since she was a youngster, is a four-year member and current captain of the school swim team, and trains in the off-season with her club team. Alexandra is a four-year state qualifier and earned Most Valuable Swimmer last season. Alexandra also is very active in the community. To date, she has completed 259 hours of service. She is an officer of the Natural Helpers, Secretary of the UNICEF club, and completed a four-year commitment to volunteering at University of New Haven’s Health Services Department. Alexandra’s accomplishments have been recognized over the years. She is a recipient of the Yale Book Award, the Michael’s Jeweler award, and past Barnum Festival Princess. Alexandra will be attending Ohio University this fall and plans on majoring in Journalism at the prestigious Scripps College of Communications. Her years in the Milford school system, she said, have taught her to reach for her dreams. “Everyone in the Milford school system has always encouraged us to dream and discover, helping us create plans to make these dreams become goals and guiding us so we can learn from our discoveries,” Alexandra said. She is planning a career in the television or newspaper industry, with an emphasis on politics.
