MILFORD - Local firefighters helped rescue a fisherman trapped in mud after the individual misjudged the tidal change and became stranded in the marsh waters off of Smith's Point last week, officials said. On the evening of Sept. 8, crews were dispatched to the marsh area for a report of a man who had been fishing, but was stuck in mud. Arriving units put on water rescue suits and waded out to the individual. Officials said crews were able to remove the fisherman from the mud using mechanical rope systems. The "complicated" rescue took almost two hours, officials said. The fisherman and firefighters were uninjured.
