Yankee Fisherman, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016

Veterans Day and a veteran fly tyer are in the spotlight on Yankee Fisherman Thursday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. at HAN.Network.

We caught up with Jay “Fishy” Fullum at Arts of the Angler, sponsored by the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum, at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury last weekend. Fishy will be sharing a new presentation will with tricks and tips at the International Fly Tying Symposium Nov. 19 and 20 in Somerset, N.J.

With Veterans Day Friday, we spent some time talking with those who served and continue to help their brothers in arms through Back in the Maine Stream. The program introduces disabled veterans to angling and activities such as fly-tying and related woodworking as a form of emotional and physical therapy.

There’s also a new executive director at the American Museum of Fly Fishing, and new plants along the Mill River in Fairfield thanks to a local Trout Unlimited chapter, and an upcoming talk on how to get into fly fishing without spending a mint.

Yankee Fisherman, presented by The Dock Shop, airs Thursdays at 1 p.m. on the HAN Network. Previous episodes can be watched on demand or listened to as a podcast.

Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
