Work to begin on $4.7M road-widening project in Orange
The state Department of Transportation announced Friday that construction will begin later this month on Route 1 in Orange between Lambert Road and Race Brook Road.
The $4.7 million project, which is slated to begin Monday, Nov. 20, consists of widening the existing roadway and adding a turning lane on Boston Post Road (Route 1). The project will be done in five stages: stages 1 and 2 are the northbound and southbound lane widening, stages 3 and 4 are for the construction of a new culvert, and stage 5 is for the final roadway repaving. All business entrances will be maintained during this project, the DOT said.
The agency anticipates construction will be completed by June 2020.
During construction, existing lanes will be temporarily merged to a single lane in both directions and one shared-use turning lane. The regular work schedule for this project is from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
