Woodbridge Senior Center gets new name

WOODBRIDGE >> This month starts a new chapter for the Woodbridge Senior Center.

The Woodbridge Senior Center is now the Woodbridge Center.

The new name reflects efforts to reach a broader audience with programs of health, wellness, nutrition, exercise, education, recreation, transportation and socialization. All town adults 60 years and older may attend programs at the facility.

The Human Services Department wants the Woodbridge Center to accommodate an expanding population.

According to the state Department on Aging, Connecticut has more than 731,000 residents 60 and older, which represents about 20 percent of the population.

In Woodbridge, there are nearly 3,000 residents 60 years and older, about 30 percent of the town’s population. The town is planning for a future that includes a growing number of active, older adults.

There are always opportunities for volunteers at the center and ideas for new programming are sought.
