A woman was hit and killed by a train in Milford Monday around noon, west of the Milford train station.

People who work nearby report that the woman was standing on the tracks as a southbound train passed through Milford. Sources also said the train sounded its horn for a long time, but the woman did not move .

A Metro North spokesperson said the woman was hit by Amtrak Train #93 at 12:21 p.m., and that train service in both directions had been suspended while police investigated. Train service had resumed as of 3 p.m.

There were 337 passengers aboard the train traveling from Boston to Richmond, Va., according to Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz. No one aboard the train was injured.

Passengers remained on the train in Milford for about 1.5 hours until shortly after 2 p.m. as police investigated.

Metro North officials said on Tuesday that an investigation determined that the woman made no attempt to get out of the way of the train. Her identity has not been released as family is notified.
