Get ready for two big fly fishing-themed events on Yankee Fisherman, Thursday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. at HAN.network.
First we’ll talk to Mike Fatse about the two upcoming showings of the Fly Fishing Film Tour in Southwestern Connecticut. The screenings, a collaboration of the Candlewood Valley, Mianus and Nutmeg Chapters of Trout Unlimited, will raise money for education and conservation projects in Southwestern Connecticut. The first showing will be held Friday, Feb. 2, at the Trumbull Marquis & BTX Theater. The the second will be Friday, Feb. 23, at the Stamford Majestic Theater. Doors open at 7 p.m. for each show. Then we’ll be joined by Jen Ripple, founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of Dun Magazine. She’ll talk about the Women’s Showcase at The Fly Fishing Show, which is in Edison, N.J., Jan. 26-28. And if you can’t get to Edison, she’ll be at the Connecticut Fly Fisherman’s Association Expo and Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Maneely’s in South Windsor.

During the expo, which runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., she’ll lead a session on steelhead fishing in the Midwest. At the banquet that night, Ripple will talk about the history of women in fly fishing.
We’ll also have the latest on efforts to change some fishing regulations in Connecticut, and about an oil spill the again fouled the Naugatuck River.
Yankee Fisherman is hosted by John Kovach, editorial director, host and announcer for the HAN Network. A native of New Jersey, Kovach has fished since his father first took him out as a child. Kovach fishes fresh and salt water, ties flies, dabbles in lure making and promotes conservation, including a leadership role in the Connecticut Council of Trout Unlimited.
