Upcoming legal seminars offer insight on need-to-know employment law topics
MILFORD >> The Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold two legal seminars, presented by attorney Rebecca Goldberg of Berchem, Moses & Devlin, P.C., March 11, 8:30-10:30 a.m., and April 8, 8:30-10:30 a.m., in the Milford Chamber board room, 5 Broad St.
Both seminars are open to the public and are free.
• The March 11 seminar, “Connecticut Employment Laws You Didn’t Know Existed,” will focus on important rules regarding common employment practices. Attendees will gain insight on why bi-weekly payroll is probably illegal, and how to fix it; what employment terms must be placed in writing; why your payroll deductions may be illegal — and how to fix them.
Also, new provisions affecting all evaluation forms and disciplinary notices, and other personnel file issues; requirements for safeguarding social security numbers and other private information; and why it’s important to notify your employee when engaging in electronic monitoring.
• The April 8 seminar, “Connecticut Mandates Sexual Harassment Training for Supervisors — are You in Compliance?” will focus on the Connecticut law requirements surrounding sexual harassment training at the supervisory personnel level. While the law mandates that only businesses with 50 or more employees provide this training, all businesses are encouraged to participate.
For businesses that have already participated in the mandatory training, this seminar also provides an excellent refresher workshop.
Attendees will gain insight on: what elements should be included in the mandatory sexual harassment training to meet compliance; why meeting and exceeding required training should be embraced; and how to recognize and manage incidents concerning sexual harassment.
Reservations are required and can be made online at milfordct.com or by calling 203-878-0681.
