Two suspicious fires struck a vacant house in Stratford during a 13-hour period Wednesday and Thursday.

Stratford firefighters first responded to the multi-family residence at 28-30 Riverview Place, off of Ferry Boulevard, when a 911 call reported smoke and fire visible from the back of the building at 1:49 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters confined damage to fo the rear porch on the first and second floors, and were on scene till shortly after 3 p.m.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday, A sanitation truck driver for Winter Brothers called 911 shortly after 2 Thursday morning, and firefighters found flames burning the outside of the front of the house. The second fire was brought under control with 25 minutes, and firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 4:30 Thursday morning.

Both fires were intentionally set on the outside of the house.

Gas and electricity were shut off after the first fire, according to the Fire Department.

The property recently changed ownership, and the Stratford Police and Fire Marshal are investigating what officials called two serious incidents. During both fires, the Bridgeport and the Milford fire departments sent firefighters and apparatus to Stratford Fire Headquarters in case of other incidents.
