WOODBRIDGE — Troop 907, of Woodbridge, has been making it a habit now of winning Klondike Derbies. Once again the Troop finished in first place this January, making it an unprecedented fifth consecutive win.

The derby, which stresses scout skill, teamwork, and dog sledding (using scouts as the dogs ), pits some 40 teams from Connecticut towns against each other in friendly competition. This year joining the Scouts were members of the Venture Crew, older boys and girls who wish to remain in scouting.

Included among the usual events of fire building, shelter building and dogsled racing using mushing commands, were trestle building, catapulting, and the throwing of axes. Once again, it was the practicing and working together that brought us success.

Scoutmaster Tom Luciani joked, “Maybe we should skip next year and give someone else a chance to win.”

Needless to say the boys were elated. The Troop’s size makes every scout an important participant and valued member of the group.

To see what they are all about, join them Thursday nights at 7:15 at the First church of Christ.

All are welcome.
