Toyota to meet with neighbors to talk about plans for old Kimberly Diner site

Colonial Toyota, 470 Boston Post Road, will host a neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, July 22 at the dealership to discuss its plans for the site formerly occupied by the Kimberly Diner at 449 Boston Post Road.

At Toyota’s request, the Planning and Zoning Board (P&Z) postponed a public hearing on a proposal regarding the property until its Aug. 19 meeting, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. About a dozen residents came to the July 15 public hearing, but left when the application was postponed.

The former Kimberly Diner building has been torn down, and Colonial has been using that property for vehicle parking. The current application would extend that parking onto the lots on Ford Road/Gunn Street.

In a letter to City Planner David B. Sulkis, Brian Stone, attorney for Gold Coast Realty II, LLC, wrote that the applicant is planning “to meet with the neighbors and address some neighborhood concerns.” Neighbors received letters from the applicant inviting them to the meeting.

Robert E. Crabtree Jr. is listed as the president of Colonial Motors and the manager of Gold Coast Realty, which owns both properties, as well as a house at 2 Ford Street, behind the former Kimberly Diner, and vacant land at 17 Ford Street on an adjacent property.

Gold Coast has applied for a zone change from R-12.5 to Zone CDD-1 for the properties on Ford and Gunn streets to match the zoning of the property along the Boston Post Road.

In a separate but related application, Gold Coast has applied for a special permit and site plan review to establish a parking lot for vehicle storage for Colonial, and use of an existing building for a photo shop for vehicles.
