Total Wine & More will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting event Wednesday, Aug. 26. at 230 Cherry Street, which is the site of the former Showcase Cinemas.

The grand opening is by invitation, according to an event announcement.

The store is located at the former movie theater property, which will also house the new and expanded ShopRite.

According to a press announcement, the Milford Total Wine & More marks the 119th location in the United States for the store.

“With each store having over 25,000 square feet of space, Total Wine & More will offer an unparalleled selection of fine wine, spirits and beer,” the announcement states. “In addition, we feature a climate-controlled wine cellar for rare selections, as well as space for private tastings, consumer education classes, community meetings and special events.”

The new ShopRite is expected to be completed around the summer or fall of 2016.

Also, a restaurant pad and possibly a gas station will be built in the area.

The current ShopRite has been in its location for 22 years. The new grocery store will be 68,000 square feet, and the parking lot will have a total of 340 spots. ShopRite will have an expanded food service and will include more organic items. The bakery and floral area will be larger.

The old Showcase Cinemas building was demolished to make room for the new retail site that will be anchored by the new and expanded ShopRite store.

In 2014 Milford’s Planning and Zoning Board approved a petition from Attorney John Knuff to construct retail stores, a restaurant and gasoline station at the 10.85-acre property, owned by 230 Cherry Milford LLC and BVS Investors LLC.

Ceruzzi Holdings is developing the site.

In 2014 ShopRite had 220 employees, and the new store was projected to add up to 40 new jobs.
