It is perhaps the coolest piece of classical music ever composed and it made its debut on this day 133 years ago. The HAN Network’s Donald Eng takes a look back at that moment in time along with a lot more of what happened on Aug. 20.
Some of the historical moments on Aug. 20 include Charles Darwin first publishing his theory of evolution through natural selection in The Journal of the Proceedings of the Linnean Society of London. Eight years later, President Andrew Johnson formally declared the American Civil War over, though the final shots had been fired more than a year earlier. During another war, nearly 80 years later, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill made the fourth of his famous wartime speeches, which included one of his most famous lines.
