This weekend's Relay for Life raises money for cancer research

Relay For Life of Milford, an overnight walk-a-thon to benefit the American Cancer Society, will take place this weekend at Foran High School.

Since holding the first Relay 12 years ago, Relay For Life of Milford has raised more than $1 million.

“While we're raising much needed funds, we'll also continue raising awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and patient support,” organizers said.

“Since we've all been touched by cancer, this is an opportunity for the community to gather and celebrate those who've survived, remember those who we've lost and fight back against this disease.”

Teams of relayers camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track at Joseph A. Foran High School. This year almost 60 teams with more than 500 participants have registered. As of Labor Day volunteers have raised more than $29,000.

There will be food vendors, entertainment and games and events for all ages.

People are invited to Foran High School during the Relay to help raise money to fight cancer.
