Post prom benefit
There will be a wine and beer tasting event to benefit the Jonathan Law High School Post Prom on Thursday, April 25, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Costa Azzurra Restaurant, 72 Broadway.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. There will be hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, desserts and raffles.

Artery screening
Milford Vascular Institute, in conjunction with the national “Love Your Limbs” campaign, will offer a free screening for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) on May 8 at 849 Boston Post Road, Suite 102.

The Milford Republican Town Committee will meet on Thursday, April 25, at 7:15 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 59 Broad Street.

City Clerk week
The 44th annual Municipal Clerks Week is May 5 to 11.
This will be Milford's fourth year celebrating. During the first week in May, the City Clerk's office will hold a reception for title searchers, attorneys, real estate agents and visitors.
Office staff will kick off the week at Mackenzie's 5th Annual Beach Clean up; the office will also be collecting donations for the Milford Food Bank. Items needed are pastas, tomato sauces, canned meats, soups, peanut butter, jelly, powdered or canned milk, canned fruits and vegetables, cereals as well as paper goods and personal items. Donations may be brought to the City Clerk's office Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Volunteer orientation
The Milford Hospital Volunteer Services Department will offer a New Volunteer Orientation Session on Saturday, April 27, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Conference Room 2.
During this session, hospital staff will provide a description of current volunteer opportunities and the requirements for volunteering. In addition, hospital policies and procedures will be reviewed. This session is designed for adult volunteers, age 18 and over.
Volunteers serve throughout Milford Hospital. Upon completion of an orientation session and an interview, new volunteers are assigned a position based upon their skills, talents and interests and the needs of the hospital.
Currently, the greatest need is in the gift shop, the information desk, emergency room receptionist and emergency room inside aide.

Woodmont election
Election is coming up in the Borough of Woodmont.
There will be elections for the warden and Board of Burgesses and other officials of the Borough of Woodmont from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 6, at 31 Clinton Street, Woodmont.
Polls are open to all registered voters who live within the Borough of Woodmont.
Sobobo art
Karen Macker, painter, will be exhibiting her works at Sobobo Gallery during the month of April.
Macker's works are traditional, capturing what the eyes see.
“Even though some may feel her work is primitive in some respects, it is not bad that it is,” states a Sobobo statement about her show. “ Primitive adds its own ambiance to the paintings. Yet there is a sense of a harmonious balance, almost tranquil as you view each piece.”
Sobobo Gallery is located at 42 Naugatuck Avenue. Gallery hours are Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 6 pm.
An exhibit reception will be held on Thursday, April 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Cartoon exhibit
Hersam Acorn Editorial Cartoonist, Douglas Smith, will have a showing of his cartoons that have appeared in the Milford Mirror as well as other local newspapers and publications. His original artwork will be on display in the Plumb Memorial Library in Shelton for the month of April.

Student art show
The Milford Fine Arts Council invites Milford students from kindergarten through high school to submit their original art and craftwork to the Annual Students' Art and Crafts Show at the Center for the Arts. Milford Pediatrics is the sponsor for this year's exhibit.
Entries of original works only will be received on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Avenue. Each artist and craftsperson may submit up to two entries. Registration fee is $1 per entry, and all artwork must be matted, mounted or framed for hanging.
Local artists and craftsperson will judge the entries, and prizes will be awarded in both art and crafts. All winners will be showcased at Milford Pediatrics office after the reception at the Center for the Arts.
The winner for Best in Show will be entitled to do a mural for the Walnut Beach Festival this summer. All art supplies for the mural will be supplied by SoBoBo Art Gallery.
The show will open with a public reception and presentation of awards on Thursday, April 18 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Slossberg on law
State Senator Gayle S. Slossberg (D-Milford) joined her House and Senate colleagues in voting for bipartisan legislation that will address the issues of mental health, school security, and gun violence prevention in the wake of the Newtown tragedy.
“We recognize that there are far too many families with significant mental health needs, especially for our young adults aged 16-25,” said Sen. Slossberg. “Services are few, difficult to access, and insurance is inadequate. This bill gives us the tools to identify the gaps in our state’s mental health system. By February of 2014, we will have a clear picture of how to address the gaps that exist. This is long overdue and will finally help move us toward a strong and comprehensive system to help people who need support for mental health issues.”
The bill will create a task force to conduct a comprehensive study of the state’s mental health system. Research topics for the study will include early intervention, gaps in insurance coverage, outpatient commitment, services provided in the schools and stigma. The task force will report on its findings by Feb. 1 of 2014.
Pancakes for Parkinsons
The 2nd Annual Pancakes for Parkinson's fund-raising supper is set at Chip's Family Restaurant, 321 Boston Post Road, Orange, on Tuesday, April 23, with four seatings for diners: 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 p.m. Price is $10 each.
Raffle tickets will be sold for prizes including an iPad Mini, gourmet baskets, wine, and more. Proceeds will benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research to help find a cure for the millions suffering from Parkinson's Disease.
Chip's is donating all the food for the mouth-watering meal, which includes three pancakes, bacon or sausage, two eggs, and coffee or tea.
