Summer Nights by Harbor Lights concert series in Milford
The Summer Nights by Harbor Lights concert series kicks off with dozens of happy feet. The Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce presents this popular annual program sponsored by the Milford Chamber of Commerce Trust Fund and Patriot Bank.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own picnics and sing and dance the night away as wonderful music is performed by numerous bands throughout the summer. The free of charge concerts are held Friday evenings at the Milford Rotary Pavilion, Fowler Field, 1 Shipyard Lane.
Bands play from 7-9 p.m. and include Penny Lane, who will perform July 20; Freeplay, July 27; Nightflight, Aug. 3; and the Rumrunners, Aug. 10.
Penny Lane, a Beatles Tribute Band has five members, four of whom dress in costume simulating the original Beatles band members. Drummer Dick Furanna, aka Ringo, said, “We are based in this area and have played in Milford before, mostly for fundraisers with our church, First United Church, but I think this is the first we’ve played in the summer concert series, so I’m excited for the opportunity.”
“I love playing for the hometown crowd, I’m a little partial having grown up in Milford,” continued Furanna. “We are all over the place this year, we have several performances which are fundraisers, many are for churches, wedding receptions, we’ve played at Foxwoods, birthday parties and more — but I really enjoy doing the summer concerts, I love the environment, I love the spot down there by the harbor, and the crowds are always good.”
“We have all played together for at least 18-20 years, we are old time friends, John and I have played together for 32 years and we always played a lot of Beatles, so about four years ago we said let’s kind of throw all our efforts to a dedicated Beatles tribute so we’ve been doing that since 2014. It’s been a lot of fun. It’s timeless, feel good music. Each of us is multi-instrumental so we switch around during the course of the night; it’s nice to have that flexibility.”
Bring your own chairs, blankets and refreshments. Rain cancellation notices will be broadcast on WPLR and WICC radio stations and on the Milford Chamber of Commerce Facebook and Twitter pages.
