Snow expected this weekend
Get the shovels and snowblowers ready for Saturday and Sunday because the region could get 4 to 10 inches of snow, plus some ice and rain, with areas near the coast expected to get less frozen precipitation.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for Saturday morning through late Saturday night.
From 6 to 10 inches are expected in northern Fairfield and New Haven counties while 4 to 8 inches are predicted in southern Fairfield and New Haven counties. The snow could be topped off by “a trace of ice,” NWS said.
The NWS said snow will begin Saturday morning and continue through the day. The snow could become heavy at times Saturday evening and then mix with sleet and freezing rain from late from late Saturday evening into very early Sunday morning (the overnight).
“Hazardous travel on snow covered and icy roads” is expected, according to NWS.
Temperatures will be in the mid 20s. Winds will be 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.
This would be the first substantial snowstorm of the season for much of southwestern Connecticut, with a few previous storms failing to live up to predictions and dropping less snow than had been forecast.
