Scott Burrell to speak at United Way campaign kick-off today

Scott Burrell, a retired professional basketball player and current head coach for Southern Connecticut State University Men’s Basketball, will be the guest speaker at the United Way of Milford’s 2016-17 campaign kick-off Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Subway World Headquarters, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Burrell starred at UConn, famously tossing the court-length pass to Tate George that led to the game-winning hoop in an NCAA Tournament win over Clemson in 1990.

Burrell played professionally from 1993-2006 and was Michael Jordan's teammate on a Chicago Bulls NBA title team. Burrell also played internationally and was a professional baseball player. He was the first American athlete to be a first round draft-pick of two major sporting organizations.

“We are thrilled to have Scott Burrell with us to kick off our campaign,” said Gary Johnson, president of the United Way. “We are so thankful to our friends at Subway for hosting this exciting event as well as our Milford community for supporting our efforts.

The United Way of Milford supports 20 local non-profit agencies that help Milford residents.

A box of diapers upon entry is the price of admission.
