Residents will mark Independence Day
Local residents will mark Independence Day, the day in July 4, 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was adopted.
Commemorations and celebrations, with fireworks, will be held in Milford, Orange and West Haven. For Connecticut Fireworks 2017, go to the Milford-Orange Bulletin online.
• Milford: The annual Kick Off to Summer with 9:15 p.m. fireworks, bands, food trucks, is at Milford’s Lisman Landing, Helwig Street, at the head of the harbor, July 1. Rain date is July 8. For details, call 203-464-9632. there will be bands and food trucks. Festivities start at 4 p.m. with the band Sapphire on the main stage. Parking will be available at 5 p.m. at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., for $5. Proceeds will help the charities of the Santa Maria Council, K of C.
• Milford: Independence Day wreath-laying ceremony, 8:45 a.m. July 4, in front of City Hall, followed by a short walk to Milford Cemetery to lay wreath at Revolutionary War Memorial Monument.
• Orange: Strange Magic — The ELO Experience will present the Independence Day concert, which precedes the fireworks on July 2, rain date July 3, at the Orange Fairgrounds, 525 Orange Center Road.
Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., with comments from First Selectman James Zeoli. The concert will be followed at 9:30 p.m. by the fireworks with patriotic music.
Strange Magic is a tribute to the Electric Light Orchestra, with cellos and intricate vocal arrangements.

Admission is free. There is a suggested parking donation of $5 to benefit the Orange Little League.
• West Haven: About 100,000 people are expected on the city’s 3½-mile shoreline to watch the Savin Rock Fireworks Committee’s huge Independence Day fireworks show at 9 p.m. July 3, off Bradley Point. The rain date is July 5. Before the display, FunHouse will present Top 40 music at the Savin Rock bandstand, 7-9 p.m.
