Residents’ achievements

• Melody Altschuler of Bethany, graduated May 29 from Bates College.

• James Semmonella of Orange, graduated May 29 from Bates College.

• Alissa Beedle, class of 2019 of Bethany, is among 27 Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors recently named to the 2017-18 women’s soccer team. Beedle’s major is health sciences and her position on the team is back field.

• Frank P. Lacerenza, principal of St. Mary School in Milford, was named the Archdiocese of Hartford’s 2017-2018 Archdiocesan Distinguished Catholic School Administrator. Lacerenza has been principal of St. Mary School for 26 years. He formerly taught at Sacred Heart School and St. Cecelia School, in Stamford; and then was principal of St. Bernadette School in New Haven and St. Patrick School in Bridgeport.

• Paula Cofrancesco was recently installed as the newest member of the Woodbridge Rotary Club. She retired in 2016 as the personnel and superintendent’s administrative assistant in the Amity Regional District after almost 20 years. She and her husband, Gene, have lived in Bethany more than 30 years, raising four children. She is a member of the Catholic Charity League, Our Lady of Assumption Ladies Guild, and is a newly elected member of the Amity Board of Education. For 40 years, she has been a volunteer for the Bethany Athletic Association.

• The following students graduated from the University of New Haven in August:

Bethany: Jessica Stoyer, BA, psychology, concentration in community clinical.

Milford: Joshua Dalby, BS, criminal justice, concentration in international justice and security; Michael Santiana, BS, biology, concentration in premedical.

Orange: Ahmed Mohammed G. Alghamdi, BS, mathematics, concentration in applied mathematics; Rashed Alkuwari, BS, fire science, concentration in fire administration; Caryn Massimino, MS, human nutrition.

Woodbridge: Allison Graham, MS, human nutrition.

• The Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors recently named 15 students to the 2017-18 women’s volleyball team, including Lauren Notholt, class of 2021 of Milford, whose position on the team is right side. Notholt majors in sport and leisure management.

• Alina Ayrapetova of Woodbridge graduated Aug. 15 from Western New England University with an MBA.

• Michelle Cassidy Hovey, a 2016 graduate of Foran High School in Milford, was on the Dean’s List for fall 2016 and inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society on April 2, 2017, at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where she is in the nursing program.

• Brandon G. DiCicco of Milford is a member of the class of 2021 at St. Lawrence University. DiCicco attended Hamden Hall Country Day School.
