Philip Vetro is Milford's Italian American of the Year

Philip Vetro will be honored as Italian American of the year, Friday, Oct. 17, at the 23rd Annual Milford Columbus Committee Dinner Dance.

Vetro has been a Milford resident and business owner for more than 44 years. During his time in Milford, he has dedicated his free time to many boards in Milford, including the Planning and Zoning board, the United Way Board, the Board of Aldermen.

He has also found time to be an Ambassador for the Milford Chamber of Commerce. A“ Lifetime Contribution Award” was presented to him by the Milford Democrats.

Other awards

The Milford Columbus Committee also will give a “Special Achievement” award to Paul Piscitelli from the Milford Recreation Department and a “Special Recognition” award to Barry Kasden of Bridges.

Student scholarships will also be awarded that night to three students from Milford, Sabrina Scarpetti, Sophia Tramuta and Lindsey Attolino.

The Milford Columbus Committee was founded in 1991. It consists of 25 successful individuals of Italian heritage coming from diverse professions.

Recognizing the importance of education in their own upbringing and success, the committee members continue to award scholarships to outstanding students of Italian heritage in the Milford community.

To date, more than $200,000 in scholarship money has been awarded.
