MILFORD — The Milford Fine Arts Council Performance Coffeehouse is will resume its 2012-2013 season with Washboard Slim & the Bluelights Friday, Jan. 25, 8 p.m., at Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Ave. Tickets are $15 or $10 for MFAC members.

The music Washboard Slim & the Bluelights perform is at the very root of traditional American popular music. For over thirty-five years bandleader Peter Menta has been expanding the concept of what a Jug Band can sound like. A typical Bluelights performance might include original music, early jazz, blues, swing, standards, jug band, gospel, pop music from the turn of the century and roots rock’n’roll. Starting in 1986, they continue to perform at festivals, concerts and clubs through out North America. Their most recent triumph was to win the 2008 State of CT Blues Challenge and the opportunity to represent their state in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Come and enjoy an intimate performance in a friendly environment. Snacks, beer and wine will be available for a nominal charge. The coffee is free.
