Peace, Love, and Music from Maren 2016, the second annual city-wide celebration of the life of Maren Sanchez, will take place on April 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Jonathan Law High School.
The festival, sponsored by Colony Pizza, will support The Maren Sanchez Memorial Scholarship Fund. Last year, the Scholarship Fund awarded over $45,000 to 30 graduating seniors at both Jonathan Law and Joseph A. Foran High Schools.

Maren Sanchez was a Jonathan Law High School student when her life was tragically cut short on the morning of her Junior Prom.

“The best way to continue to remember Maren is to have an uplifting day that celebrates the creativity, fun and community spirit Maren embodied,” said Jonathan Law High School Principal Fran Thompson. “I am proud to have this at Law.”

The day will begin with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. followed by a 5K Run at 9:30 a.m. led by the Milford Road Runners. Events officially kick off at 10 a.m. with continuous live music featuring Rum Runners (and other bands), a Mural Street Art Competition in collaboration with Milford Arts Council, a kickball tournament, food truck vendors, and activities for kids of all ages. The intent is to fill the field with representatives from Milford schools, organizations and businesses. Last year’s event had over 4,000 visitors.

A significant portion of the proceeds will benefit The Maren Sanchez Memorial Scholarship Fund which will expand its reach and award scholarships to graduating Milford seniors at many area high schools. “The scholarship fund gives back to graduating seniors who reside in Milford,” said planning committee member Elena Garet.

The committee organizing the event is seeking businesses and corporations to sponsor themed baskets, food truck vendors, and volunteers to help during the event. For more information, email the committee at PLMfromMaren@gmail.com.
