Pair charged with breaking into Wheel's Gas Station

Milford police arrested two men shortly after they allegedly broke into a local gas station and stole cigarettes.

According to police, on Feb. 5 at about 1:15 a.m., police noticed the front door to Wheel’s Gas Station, 313 Naugatuck Avenue, smashed out. Officers checked the area and located a suspicious vehicle driving on Naugatuck Avenue, down side roads, and then back out onto Naugatuck Avenue.

Police stopped the vehicle on Bridgeport Avenue near Naugatuck Avenue.

James Graziani, 39, of 86 High Street, Middletown, and George Hutchings, 53, of 2 Howard Court, Bridgeport, were detained after a trash bag filled with cigarettes was spotted inside the vehicle, police said.

“Video surveillance from the business was viewed and showed a male matching Hutchings description break the glass of the door, causing approximately $1,000 worth of damage, and enter the business,” police said in a press release. “The male then takes a trash bag and fills it with approximately $1,000 worth of cigarettes.”

Both men were taken into custody, charged with a number of crimes, including burglary, larceny and possession of burglary tools.

Graziani and Hutchings were held on a $50,000 bond to appear in Milford Court later in the day.
