Shuckers, music and art lovers, competitive eaters and people just looking for good old New England fun and games will assemble next weekend on Saturday, Aug. 18, when the Milford Oyster Festival returns for its 38th year to downtown Milford.
Festival-goers can hit the green and Fowler Field beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. “The harbor, downtown and Lisman Landing will be transformed with a classic car, bike and truck show along with live bands all day as well as food, oysters, beer and wine taking center stage. All your senses will be excited when you visit this area,” said Oyster Festival spokesperson Andrew Gumbus.

The green will be filled with crafters, non-profit groups and businesses from around the area. There will be a BMX stunt show, an extreme bungee jump attraction and a touch-a-truck location. Oyster Festival President Jay Pinto said the area is one of the many gems of the festival.
A canoe and kayak race will once again kick off the day and takes place at 8:30 a.m. at the Milford boat launch area behind the Milford Public Library. Race trophies will be awarded in a variety of categories, and organizers recommend registering in advance of the race at milfordoysterfestival.com.
Behind the Milford Library there will be a large selection of food: Burgers, hot dogs, lobster rolls and plenty of oysters and beer on tap. There will be a children’s area and amusement rides as well.
Live music will begin at the main stage area of Fowler Field at 11:30 and according to event organizers, this year’s headline act, Kansas, will begin their set at 3:45.
Admission to the all-day festival on Saturday will be free, but Oyster Eve, a kick-off event that will take place at Lisman Landing on Helwig Street starting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17, will carry a $5 cover charge to anyone over the age of 14.
The Bernadettes will be performing covers of Motown, R&B, blues and rock at the Lisman Landing stage. Amusement rides will be running throughout the evening and many downtown shops will be offering unique items during a sidewalk sale.
Organizers point out that the 80-foot schooner, Soundwaters, will be offering sunset cruises on Friday and daytime cruises on Saturday.
