Representatives from the 40th Annual Milford Oyster Festival committee and local non-profit groups met at the Milford Chamber of Commerce recently for a presentation of $12,000 in charitable funds.
“One of the festival committee's greatest rewards is supporting our community of over 70 non-profit and civic organizations during and after the Oyster Festival,” said Jay Pinto, festival president. “They are the ones who do the real hard work...the festival is simply doing its part to ensure their success continues.”
The 2014 recipients include The Literacy Center of Milford, School of The World, Milford Toys for Tots, Milford Hospital’s Young Parent Program, Beth-El Center, BSA/Yankee Council, Camp Happiness and the Milford Animal Shelter.
Funds also went to the Milford Children’s Trout Derby, Milford Food Bank, Milford Prevention Council, Rape Crisis Center of Milford, Scholarship of Social Learning Benhaven, Senior Housing Assistance Program - Milford Dept. of Human Services and the United Way of Milford-Adopt-A-Family Program.
Also receiving funds from the Oyster Festival committee were the Concerned Citizen’s for People with Disabilities Program, Foran High School Post Prom Committee, Heat For Heroes, JLHS Post Prom Committee, Kids Count, Platt Tech Post Prom Committee, Senior Make a Wish and Special Olympics.
The next Oyster Festival will be Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oyster Eve, a pre-festival event, will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 10 p.m.
