Orange Garden Club wins state awards
Orange Garden Club members Maryellen Bespuda, Larry Huzi ,Terry Azoti , Brenda Zandri and Nancy Beque received state awards and Certificates of Achievement at the 88th Annual Awards Meeting & Luncheon of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut on Wednesday, October 25th at the Aqua Turf Club.
Larry Huzi earned The Nell McGuinness Award for his winning designs at the State Flower Show in 2016. In addition he received the Connecticut Tribute Award in Design.
Maryellen Bespuda received a Certificate of Achievement as chair of the 21st Century School Program which helps school children start plants from seeds in an effort to grow the gardeners of tomorrow.
Receiving First place awards were the club’s newsletter and yearbook. Editors are Terry Azoti, Brenda Zandri and Nancy Mellone.
Civic Chair Nancy Becque was recognized with a Certificate of Achievement for the “continued stewardship of maintaining the town green and providing holiday decorations for municipal buildings, especially the town library”.
At the luncheon, club members Diana DeFillippo, Larry Huzi and Patti Logiocco created a tablescape exhibit based on the movie “Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Their display won a top prize for its colorful design..
