WOODBRIDGE >> “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict,” a documentary screening and panel discussion, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11 at Amity Regional High School John J. Brady Center for Performing Arts, 25 Newton Road.

The program is designed to help parents and community members educate themselves about the cycle of addiction.

It is sponsored in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the

Office of the U.S. District Attorney, and Woodbridge Youth Services.

The discussion will include medical professionals, law enforcement professionals, and recovering opiate addicts.

The film includes strong language and content and is not appropriate for young viewers. Viewers 16 and older are encouraged to attend and participate in the panel discussion.

“Drug overdose deaths are the leading cause of injury death in the United States, ahead of motor vehicle deaths and firearms (deaths).” Of the nearly 50,000 annual drug-related deaths, more than half are caused by prescription drugs and heroin,” according to the DEA and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
