Orange Police Officer Heather Foote is truly a woman to look up.

And the state officers association has seen fit to bestow her with its highest honor, Officer of the Year.

Foote is a humble person. She said she couldn't believe she was receiving the honor, that she knew previous recipents and doesn't feel she has reached their level of policing.

Foote has made inroads with many groups within the Orange community.

She has become an accomplished speaker, has initated numerous worthwhile programs including a review board that will keep good kids who make a small mistake from having to navigate the judicial system.

She is a proactive member of the department and worthy of the award. We agree with Police Chief Robert Gagne that Foote is deserving of the recogniton.

As he said she doesn't do her job for accolades, rather she does her job well and consistently because that is the kind of person she is.

Congratulations Heather for a well-deserved honor.
