Old flags can be brought to city clerk's office

Joanne M. Rohrig, Milford City Clerk, has partnered with VFW Post 7788 to commemorate Flag Day. The Milford City Clerk’s office will act as a drop off location for tattered, torn, worn, used and unneeded flags for retirement. The flags should be brought to the Milford City Clerk’s office at the Parson’s Government Complex Building located at 70 West River Street, Monday – Friday from 8:30-5 p.m.

“Our Post is proud to work with the city clerk to provide this community service. We will soon have a collection receptacle in the rear of our Post at 422 Naugatuck Avenue,” said Joe Razzaia, VFW Post 7788 Commander.

Until the Post’s receptacle is in place, flags may also be left outside the rear entrance of VFW Post 7788. Flags may be left in a box or hung in a bag on the door. They should not be left on the ground.

Throughout the year, VFW Post 7778 collects such flags for retirement.  Typically they hold a ceremony on Veteran’s Day for the disposing of the flags.
