Old Gate Lane reopened after fire

School buses were rolling and traffic got by on Old Gate Lane Monday following a fire at a recycling plant Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to the fire, blocking a portion of Old Gate Lane.

"The fire was contained to a pile of stumps and other wood items in the back of the property," said Fire Department Spokesman Greg Carman. "There was no damage to the building nor did it spread to any other items."

It took awhile to put out the fire because it was deep within the pile of wood and company employees had to use heavy construction equipment to pull the pile apart so firefighters could extinguish all of the burning material.

"Most of it was out by 10:30 p.m., but we kept a fire crew on scene until about 9 a.m. in case of a rekindle of any hot spots," Carman said.
