Emily Morgan / Hearst Connecticut MediaNORWALK — The weekend leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Norwalk is expected to see extreme cold with wind chills feeling like negative 12 degrees and a few inches of snow and sleet, according to the National Weather Service.
Due to the extreme cold, Norwalk canceled COVID-19 testing at Shady Beach and the COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Veteran’s Park, according to a city statement.
“COVID-19 testing at Shady Beach resumes at 9 a.m. on Sunday,” the statement read. “The COVID-19 vaccine clinic at Vet’s Park resumes at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.”
Following the wind chill, the area is expected to see some precipitation Sunday into Monday, with Norwalk receiving between 1 and 3 inches of snow, according to the weather service.
Snow is likely before 1 a.m. Sunday night, followed by rain and sleet from 1 to 4 a.m. and rain after 4 a.m., according to the weather service.
“The sleet could be heavy at times,” according to the National Weather Service. “Temperature rising to around 35 by 5 a.m.”
Early Monday morning there will still be a 90% chance of precipitation. For the rest of Monday, rain can be expected before 1 p.m.
The storm and extreme cold will be the second snowfall of 2022, following the Jan. 7 storm that resulted in about 6 inches of snow in Norwalk.
