Chevrolet of Milford of 655 Bridgeport Avenue is moving ahead with further changes to the property at 625 Bridgeport Avenue, which it purchased on Sept. 1, 2015 from the MKC Club, Milford Knights of Columbus.

The dealership received unanimous approval from the Planning and Zoning Board (P&Z) at its June 7 meeting to abandon a portion of Twin Oaks Terrace to construct a cul-de-sac between the two properties.

Project engineer Raymond Macaluso told the board that Sanford Realty owns Chevrolet of Milford and the two properties. Macaluso said the owners want to combine the two lots and build a cul-de-sac, but first wanted approval of the abandonment and cul-de-sac before returning for complete site plan approval.

The proposal goes to the Board of Aldermen for approval of an easement for sanitary sewer lines, said Macaluso. Then he would return to the P&Z with a site plan that would include a sidewalk all the way around the cul-de-sac. The plan would also include a berm, which he said residents requested.

Macaluso said city departments, the state Department of Transportation, and all the homeowners on Twin Oaks Terrace are in favor of the project. As part of the project, 11 parking spaces will be striped for residents on Twin Oaks Terrace, a horseshoe-shaped street behind the property at 625 Bridgeport Ave.

“It takes a lot of excess traffic off their road,” said Macaluso.

The dealership demolished the former Knights building and is using the property for parking vehicles.

In a related matter, the P&Z also unanimously approved a request by the Knights of Columbus, Tinto Council 47 to change the building use at 240 Naugatuck Avenue from a restaurant to a private club. David Sell, a council representative, told the board that there would be no changes to the building, which currently houses Aldario’s Restaurant. Sell said the facility would be used for members and guests and would not be rented to non-members.

Following the meeting, Sell explained that in the former K of C building the bar was located in the basement, allowing the organization to rent the main level to non-members. This option does not exist at the Naugatuck Avenue location. Sell said the Knights will purchase the property when Aldario’s ceases to operate at that location.

Sante Faustini II and Rosemary Faustini own the property at 240 Naugatuck Avenue.
