Music and fireworks Saturday downtown for city's 375th

In celebration of Milford's 375th, on Saturday, June 14 there will be a trail of music, food trucks and fun, concluding with fireworks.

The music begins at 10 a.m. with the Milford Volunteers Ancient Fife and Drum Corps marching in grand style from City Hall to the gazebo on the green: All are invited to join in the march.

Allendale Rose will follow with old folk songs and ballads with a Milford slant at the gazebo  from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Milford Concert Band will take the stage from 2 to 3 p.m.

At the Parson's Gymnasium, there will be Adam's Italian Ice and a kids bouncing funhouse from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Music on the harbor at Lisman's Landing will kick off at 3 p.m. with the Sapphire Band. This will be followed by Dr. B and the Brotherhood playing popular hits starting at 6:30 p.m., ending as the fireworks light the night.

While listening to the bands people can sample food at the food truck rally with BRYAC Shuck Truck, The Local Meatball, Melt Mobile and LobsterCraft. There will be ice cold Connecticut beer and wine from Wines & More.

Keep that appetite up for the next stop on the trail at the Milford Elks Lodge for the Peace and Love Block Dance Party starting at 6 p.m. There will be lobster rolls, hamburgers and hot-dogs, beer, wine and more. Dance to music by the Vybrations, the Navels, The Elwoods and Toigo Band while enjoying a view of the fireworks. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. No coolers allowed.

Fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m. and can be seen from Lisman’s Landing and the Milford Elks Lodge, as well as other downtown spots.

In conjunction with Connecticut's Open House Day, the city’s historic homes at 34 High Street will be open and tours will be available from noon until 4 p.m. Open House Day is sponsored by the Connecticut Office of Tourism. In honor of the 375th anniversary there will be no charge for tours that day.

The Milford Arts Council is hosting Plein Air Painting all day in various locations. Artists have registered for one or more historically significant sites such as the Duck Pond, City Hall and Sanford Bristol House. For a full site list check out milfordarts.org.
