Neighborhood Music School invites families to participate in workshops in which they cooperatively develop mini musicals based on a children’s book.
The creative workshops are based on NMS’s popular Audubon Arts summer program. Designed for children ages 5 – 12, the families will be writing original lyrics and songs, and perform their creation for an audience. Workshop instructors are NMS Drama Department Head Stephen Dest and NMS voice instructor Matthew Harrison, who both teach at NMS’s Audubon Arts program.
The first workshop is based on the book “Curious George,” written and illustrated by H.A. Rey. It will take place Sunday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Neighborhood Music School, 100 Audubon St., New Haven. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to participate with children in these events.
Each participating family will receive a free book at each event, while supplies last. Workshops are scheduled for the following dates, with a different book and theme for each date:
• Dec. 6 – Curious George
• Jan. 24 – Horton Hears A Who!
• Feb. 14 – Thomas the Tank Engine
• April 25 – Look! Look!
These workshops are made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Connecticut Children’s Museum.
