Missing Milford man found at a Vermont campsite and taken to hospital for evaluation

A Milford man reported missing by his family was found camping in Vermont and was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

Police didn’t offer too many details on the search for Theodore Chittem, 49, of Milford.

They said family contacted them on March 28, and said Chittem was last seen on March 24 in Milford. Family and friends had not had any contact with him and were concerned for his welfare.

Investigators were told that Chittem frequents the Vermont and New Hampshire areas and is an outdoors enthusiast.

On March 30, members of the Stowe Police Department in Vermont located Chittem’s vehicle at the base of Mansfield Mountain. This began a search of the area, which included several hiking trails by members of the Stowe Police Department, Stowe Mountain Rescue Unit and Vermont State Police.

Searchers found Chittem in a camping shelter along a hiking trail on the mountain on March 31 at approximately 4 a.m., and transported him to a hospital for evaluation.

Local police did not offer details yet on Chittem’s medical condition when he was found.
