Freelove Baldwin Stow Chapter DAR in Milford will host the sixth annual Wreaths Across America ceremony, Saturday, Dec. 13 at noon at the Kings Highway Cemetery, 270 Cherry Street at the Veteran’s Circle.
The Freelove Baldwin Stow Chapter DAR is planning this local ceremony along with the mayor’s office, the Disabled Veteran’s Post 15, the American Legion and several other local groups.
The ceremony runs simultaneously with wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington Cemetery and over 850 other locations throughout the United States and the world and also 24 offshore sites.
The Wreaths Across America story was started in 1992 in Harrington, Maine when the Worchester Wreath Company began a tradition of placing wreaths on the headstones of the nation’s fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery during the holidays.
As word spread, the mission to Remember; Honor; and Teach about the sacrifices made by veterans also spread.
Several Milford Boy Scout Troops will help lay the wreaths on the veteran’s graves.
A complete list of participating Connecticut locations is online at WreathsAcrossAmerica.org as well as the route through the state that the trucks carrying the wreaths will take from Maine to Arlington.
The wreaths are made and transported by volunteers. For information contact Barbara Stewart at 203-375-3087.
