MILFORD — Milford residents Srilakshmi Vemineni and her husband Kishor Kurra weren’t thinking about having Milford Hospital’s first baby of 2012 when they arrived at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, to deliver their second child.

Nevertheless, when their baby girl, Aiswarya Kurra, was born at 8:04 a.m., she was indeed the hospital’s “New Year” baby.

“I was really surprised to learn that we had the first baby of the year” said the happy new father, Kurra. “When we came in I asked how many babies had been born in 2012. I didn’t expect this at all.”

Though she waited until Jan. 3 to be the hospital’s first delivery, Aiswarya was actually an early arrival. She was not due until Jan. 9.

The newborn weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces. She joins her proud big sister, four-year-old Priyanka Kurra, who was also born at Milford Hospital.

According to Kurra, the whole experience has been great. He went on to say the family has a great deal of support from their visiting relatives and “this has been so exciting for everyone. We can’t wait to tell her she was the first baby in Milford.”
