Milford police: Man tried to lure 11-year-old into his car
MILFORD >> Local police say a man in a white SUV tried to lure an 11-year-old child into his car on Tuesday.
The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. on Baxter Lane near Apple Jack Lane, police said.
A man driving an early 2000s white BMW SUV with dice on the rearview mirror and flames on the rims talked to the child who was walking to the bus stop, claiming to be a family friend and asking the child to open the rear hatch to the vehicle, police said.
The child ran to a friend’s house nearby and the man speed off toward New Haven Avenue, police said. He is described as white, approximately 25 to 30 years old, with brown or black hair.
Milford Public Schools were made aware of a suspicious encounter involving their student on Tuesday evening, Communications Coordinator Kathryn Bonetti said Wednesday.
“The police department initiated an investigation yesterday evening after meeting with the student,” Bonetti said. “Police are continuing with their investigation and have provided an extra police presence in the area.”
The Milford Public Schools will continue to collaborate with the police regarding this matter, Bonetti said.
“As always, the safety of our students is our highest priority,” she said. “We encourage you to speak with your children about the importance of reporting suspicious activities to a trusted adult and school officials.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Milford Police Department at 203-878-6551.
