Milford man wins Lottery's 5 Card Cash game

Raza Sabahat spends $10 a week sometimes on lottery tickets: This month it paid off when the local businessman won $255,555.

Sabahat bought the ticket at the News Den at 1370 New Haven Avenue, a shop he has owned for about 13 years and runs with his family.

Since ticket sales began for the CT Lottery’s 5 Card Cash draw game on May 4, more than three million winning tickets have been sold, according to a Lottery press release.

“On Sept. 11, Sabahat joined that growing list of winners as the seventh lucky person to claim the game’s $255,555 top drawing prize,” the release states. “On Sept. 11, the ‘cards’ on Sabahat’s 5 Card Cash ticket were a perfect match to the winning hand drawn for that date: 5C - KS - KH - 9S - AS (5 of Clubs, King of Spades, King of Hearts, 9 of Spades, Ace of Spades).”

Sabahat said this is the first time he’s won the lottery, and that he hasn’t decided yet what he will do with it.

The News Den will receive a $2,500 check from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
